She met and married a confirmed bachelor of 14 years, with two daughters from an earlier marriage. They have formed a successful blended family. Dr. Coché has co-authored two books: Couples Group Psychotherapy (1990) and Powerful Wisdom (1993). She has trained over 2,000 mental health professionals world-wide in techniques to educate and to treat couples in groups. A videotape, Techniques in Couples Group Psychotherapy (1990) teaches colleagues methods practiced at The Coché Center. She has authored more than twenty-five book chapters and journal articles in the fields of Family Therapy, Women as Therapists, Couples Psychotherapy, and Group Psychotherapy. Whitby Born in 1998, Whitby Anderson, Portuguese Water Dog, has, in his own estimation, "the best job in the world." His job consists of walking to and from work, getting pats, greeting clients in the waiting room, hanging out in groups, getting cookies at 4 P.M., convincing clients to play with him, and helping the children benefit from their therapy with us. He also sleeps. Owned, loved, and trained by Dr. Judith Coché, with help from Sabina Hower, Whitby is a Delta Society Pet Partner and a member of Therapy Dogs, Inc. He has achieved the American Kennel Club's distinction as a canine good citizen. After a couple of conformation prizes during early puphood, Whitby was selected for his remarkable temperament to fly to Philadelphia from his Portland, Oregon, birthplace, where he was immediately drafted into service as a therapy dog. He visits with patients at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on the units for children with kidney, liver, and heart transplants. He also visits with children, adolescents, and seniors at the Princeton House in New Jersey, where his antics keep patients laughing and looking forward to his next visit. In an interview for this web site bio, Whitby was overheard suggesting to people that they take their dogs to visit hospitals and nursing homes. He is a living example of how a dog thrives when you "put your dog to work." |
